Troop 303 Backpacks the Smokies

Dahlonega, GA March 25-29 – Three local scouts from BSA Troop 303 took a 60+ mile backpacking trek through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park during their Spring Break. Their adventure started at the trailhead at Smokemont Campground hiking up the creek and crossing the ridgeline to Kephart Shelter. They meet the Appalachian Trail and headed south toward Newfound Gap. Camping at Mount Collins Shelter, they prepared to cross Clingman’s Dome at 6,643 feet on their way to Derrick’s Knob for the night. They continued to Mollie’s Ridge and finished their exploration just pass Fontana Dam at the south trailhead. Highlights of the trip included seeing a wildlife, the ridgeline views, playing in the snow, working on their wilderness skills, camping in the shelters with thru-hikers on AT, and completing this 60+ miles backpacking trek.

Boy Scout Troop 303 Kayaks the Cartecay

On March 16th, 2008, Boy Scout troop 303 kayaked the Cartecay River.  Here scouts worked on there kayaking skills as well as river reading and several other things.  Highlights of this trip included kayaking the S turns, whirlpool rapids, and finishing with the running of the falls. Scouts who participated in this activity were Nick Gooch, Trey Greer, and Jacob Walden.

Boy Scout Troop 303 Attend Scout Day At the Capital

ahlonega, GA March 12 – BSA Troop 303 took the fifteen scouts to explore the State Capital during the 8th Annual Boy Scout Day at the State Capitol. Rep. Ehrhart, Rep. Marian, Sen. Pearson, Sen. Johnny Grant make their remarks. We visit the Senate and House (Gallery), took a photo with Governor, toured the Capital building, working on a scavenger hunt of Georgia’s facts in the Museum, had Chick-fil-a lunch in the Capital, and participated in an question and answer sessions with legislators and cadets from West Point Academy and Naval Academy.
